Enjoy this fun, easy and meaningful art project with your child. This fun project can be done in the center of the table during your Thanksgiving Meal. It’s the perfect way to discuss what you are thankful for this year in a creative atmosphere. What is more meaningful than something that you created with you child?
What will you need:
– Colored stock paper
– Assorted markers / crayons / stickers
– Scissors
– Popsicle sticks
– Glue
1. Trace your child’s hand. Trace your hand.
2. Cut out the shape.
3. Ask your child what is s/he grateful for. Give one example of what you are grateful for.
Talking points:
– Shapes: Compare your child’s hand to the cutout shape. Discuss the concept of ‘The Same’.
– Comparison: Compare the sizes of your hand to your child’s hand. The concepts of bigger and smaller.
– Talk about Gratitude: We are grateful for tangible things in our lives, like food, gas in our car, our bed, and our toys. We are grateful for people, like family and friends. With older kids you can discuss the meaning and the freedoms of living in a democratic country, where we have the right to vote and to express our opinions.
