DANCE IS LIKE SIGN LANGUAGE!
I always believe that the sign language is the most wonderful and a healthy communication tool, which is a highly visual and physically expressive way of communication in the world. But, I should say, dancing is also a way of signing. Can you ever imagine dancing without the movement of hands, head and expressions? Same goes with Sign Language! Let us see how dance is more like a sign language!
Sign language is not complete and cannot be well understood without the help of EXPRESSIONS! We all know how important an expression is while we communicate. An expression puts emphasis on words, it can change the meaning of the words, and it can be the meaning of words! Therefore, with expression being a common ground to sign language and dancing, I can say dancing is a form of sign language and here I would like to walk through you of how both are interlinked
- Dancing interests babies and boosts them to sign more
We all know babies love music and are always happy to dance. So is signing! Sign Dance is a good mode of communication tool to help babies to start signing. In sign language, we use our facial and body expressions as the same way it’s being used in dancing. That interests babies to express and sign more quickly.
- How signing and dancing are interlinked?
Dancing uses a lot of body movements to express ourselves. Same goes with sign language too. Let us see few examples of how dancing and singing are interlinked
Scared Expression : To express scariness , the dancer opens his/her mouth and eyes wide open, and place hands on their face.
Shy Expression: To express shyness, the dancer lays their head on one shoulder and widens their eyes, and slightly smiles
In the same way, expressions play a major role in Sign Language too. Facial expressions and head movements can completely change what a sign translates into. Movements of the eyebrows, lips and mouth show proper grammar aspects in Signing.
For example to QUESTION, you can sign by lifting your eyebrows and making our eyes wide open, or by tilting our body slightly forward as if in waiting for a response.
To sign LOVE: to express love we have to show body expression by crossing our hands over our chest, and face lightened up!
Now, I am sure you will be pretty clear from the above mentioned facts that both dancing and singing are interlinked in the ways of expressions given to face and the body movements.
As sign language is as interesting as it is, integrating it into dancing makes it even more fascinating. So, why wait, start signing and dancing with your babies.
