Perspective is Everything.

Are you listening to me?

Perspective is everything.

Have you ever noticed how much more seriously you take things once you realize it will directly affect you personally? This is why we compartmentalize GM recalls, a missing Malaysian airliner, a devastating mudslide, or powerful earthquakes. We tend to become much more interested when we have a direct connection to the event.

Which leads me to my next point, (if you’re still paying attention, that is) when you (the Sender) are talking with someone else (the Receiver), you expect/hope/want the Receiver to give you his/her 100% undivided attention. But realistically, how often are you getting the Receiver’s full attention? Isn’t it fair to think that the Receiver may not be as interested in whatever the Sender is saying because it is not as relevant to that person?

Perspective is everything.

‘You must walk a mile in another man’s shoes to know (and appreciate) where he’s come from.’

Or so they say…I really wasn’t listening that closely.
