We all have been there, Mother’s day is approaching and wonder what is the most meaningful gift I can give to our mother figures in our life. We have sat endlessly scrolling online or looking down aisles at the store to see what pops out as the perfect gift. But we don’t think of the gifts that every mother cherishes and keeps until the end of time which are homemade gifts that their child creates from the heart.
Children are always wanting to do something fun and creative to pass the time. Here are a few meaningful ideas that your kids can create at home to give to their mother figures. These 4 ideas are moving while being one of a kind that are not costly.
- Make a Card: this project is a loving way that a child can show their mom that they love them. It can easily be done by having the child draw a picture for their mom. All the materials you need are a piece of paper and crayons. Before the child starts to color, you should make sure the paper is folded in half, hamburger style. This would allow the child to be able to draw multiple pictures for their mom so they can make her feel loved. Once they are all done, you can ask what they would like to say to their mom on mother’s day. You will write down what they say on the card and have them sign their masterpiece.
- Craft Bouquet: this project is the perfect way to give flowers to your loved one that will never die. Kids will have a blast creating these bouquets while making their mom feel special. The materials that are needed are pipe cleaners, tissue paper, and ribbon. The kids will pick out the colors for the tissue paper that they want to use for the flower part and the color they want to use for the pipe cleaners for the stem. They will need to bunch up the tissue paper and wrap one end of the pipe cleaner in the middle of the tissue paper. Wallah you just made a flower! They can make as many as they want and then you can wrap the ribbon of their choice around the stems and tie a bow.
- Fingerprint Heart Keepsake: this project will make any mom smile and she will be able to hang it up on the wall. This fun project has the kids playing with finger paint and having a blast. The materials that need are two pieces of paper, tape, scissors, paint, and a black marker. Optional material would be to replace one of the pieces of paper with a canvas. You will need to cut a heart out of one of the pieces of paper. You can do that by folding the paper in half and cutting the inside seam in the shape of a teardrop. Then open up the paper to see the heart you cut and then tape that paper on top of the other one. This is when the kiddos can come in and paint their hearts outs with their fingertips. Once it is dry you can remove the heart cut-out paper and write a cute message that the kiddos would like to say to their mom.
- Painted Rocks: this fun project can be an amazing present for moms because they can use it both inside and outside. This simple but fun project will make anyone have a blast especially since all you need is paint and a few rocks. The kiddos can have fun painting the rocks and then they can write on them to say a loving message to their mom.
- I love you ASL card: This is one of Etel Leit’s favorites.
Trace your child’s hand on the construction paper or foam. (Cutting the hand out is too detailed for many preschoolers to do on their own, so let them ‘cut’ one hand while you are cutting the other). When the paper hands are cut out, help them to fold down the two middle fingers.
Glue the fingers down to the palm of the hand. Glue the entire hand cutout to a Popsicle stick (or even a plastic spoon).
Write your child’s name or the person you are giving the I Love You sign to Mom, Grandma, Auntie, or any Mother’s figure.
Let the creative fun begin – provide glitter, buttons, stamps, stickers, and other decorations. Encourage your little one to use his or her imagination and decorate the heart in whatever way that they would like to!
These fun projects will make any kids have a great time being creative while making their moms feel special. Just remember on all the projects write the dates on them so the mom can look back at this for years to come.
